Download a correct template below, or paste your own CSV and get a plain list of what Shopify will refuse: missing columns, a misspelled header, a handle that breaks the rules, an inventory policy Shopify does not accept. Everything runs in your browser. Your file is never uploaded.
The blank template holds the columns Shopify reads. The example fills them in, so you can see what a two-variant product looks like before you edit anything.
Drop the file, or paste the text. The check reads the header row and every data row, then reports errors first.
Two are required: Handle and Title. The handle is the product's
id in the file — every row of the same product repeats it, and only the first of those rows
needs the title and the body. Everything else is optional, but a product you intend to sell
normally also carries Variant Price, Variant Inventory Qty,
Variant Inventory Tracker, and Status.
Four causes cover most of it. A header is misspelled, so Shopify ignores that column
silently. A handle has capitals, spaces, or underscores. A product has several rows but no
Option1 Name and Option1 Value, so the variants cannot be told
apart. Or Variant Inventory Policy holds something other than
deny or continue. The check above reports all four.
Yes. Shopify allows the same SKU on many listings, and it does not treat them as one stock. Each listing keeps its own count. That is correct behaviour for Shopify, and it is also the reason a shared shelf oversells: two listings of one real item hold two numbers, and a busy day can sell both. The check above tells you which SKUs you repeat.
No. The parser and every check run in your browser. There is no server call, no account, and no copy kept. You can open the page, turn off your network, and it still works.
A clean CSV fixes the import. It does not fix the count. When ten listings draw on one blank, one bottle, or one week of capacity, Shopify still keeps ten separate numbers — and the oversell happens on the busy day, between two orders a minute apart. OneShelf gives those listings one base stock. Each sale deducts from that single number, online and at the register.
